📋 About Harambee DT Sacco

Harambee DT Sacco was formed in 1969, born from a single unit within the Office of the President (OOP), with a simple purpose: to promote financial security and cooperative growth among public servants. The Sacco operated first from the Office of the President, then Government Printers, and later Shankadas House, before breaking ground in 1979 on what would become its landmark headquarters, Harambee Co-operative Plaza, along Haile Selassie Avenue in Nairobi’s Central Business District. Construction was completed in 1986, giving the Sacco a proud, purpose-built home after years of borrowed space.

Today, Harambee DT Sacco serves over 78,000 members and manages assets exceeding KES 38.69 billion, making it the fourth-largest deposit-taking Sacco in Kenya. Its membership is drawn primarily from public servants and government institutions, with the Sacco recognised as one of the largest and most trusted cooperative societies in the country. The Sacco offers a wide range of financial products including savings and loan facilities, life and health insurance, mortgages, and FOSA (Front Office Service Activity) and BOSA (Back Office Service Activity) products, alongside digital banking channels. Reflecting its Vision 2030 target of KES 50 billion in assets, Harambee continues to expand — most recently opening its Nanyuki FOSA branch in 2025 to extend accessible financial services into the Mt Kenya region.

“My parents were both members before me and now I am too — it’s genuinely a multi-generational institution for public service families. Used the Jenga Loan to build our family home and the process was well organised.”

“So happy the Nanyuki FOSA branch finally opened last year. Before I had to travel to Nakuru for any in-person service. Great to see the Sacco investing in reaching the Mt Kenya region.”

“Solid Sacco overall with reliable dividends. The Kisumu branch can get busy at month-end when salaries and loan disbursements come through — worth going early or using the digital channels for routine transactions.”

★★★★★

“Been a member since the 1990s and even into retirement the Sacco has continued to serve me reliably. The financial literacy workshops are also a nice touch helped my children understand saving early.”
