Kerugoya County Referral Hospital is the main public Level 5 hospital serving Kirinyaga County and surrounding areas. Formerly known as Kerugoya District Hospital, it was significantly upgraded with a modern five-storey medical complex opened in 2023, elevating it to full Level 5 status.
The facility handles approximately 600 outpatients and hundreds of inpatients daily. It features a 12-bed ICU, 12-bed HDU, maternity and newborn units, operating theatres, a CT scan centre, renal dialysis, oncology services, orthopaedics and an on-site oxygen plant that supplies medical gas to all beds.
Located in Kerugoya Town, Kirinyaga Central, it forms a key part of the county’s Mountain Cities 2032 health blueprint. Residents who are fully paid-up under the Social Health Authority (SHA) can access covered services with reduced or no out-of-pocket costs for eligible care.
