📋 About Brookside Dairy Limited

Brookside Dairy Limited was established in 1993 by members of the Jomo Kenyatta family, including his son Uhuru Kenyatta, who later served as President of Kenya. At a time when milk processing in Kenya was struggling, Brookside revolutionised the market through creative business strategy and consistent product quality. The company’s head office is located along the old Port Bell Road (off Thika Road) in Ruiru, opposite Kenyatta University, roughly 25 kilometres northeast of Nairobi.

Today Brookside is East Africa’s largest milk processor, with operations spanning more than 12 countries and a network of over 200,000 farmers who deliver fresh milk daily — the largest raw milk supplier footprint across key dairy sheds in the region. The company was the first in Kenya to introduce long-life milk in Tetra Pak packaging and has grown its portfolio through strategic acquisitions of rival milk processors in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, and Nigeria. Major shareholders include Abraaj Capital, which acquired a 10% stake in 2009, and French yoghurt maker Danone, which took a 40% shareholding in 2014. Brookside’s leading brands include Tuzo, Ilara, Molo Milk, and Delamere.
