SBM Bank Kenya traces its roots to Fidelity Commercial Bank, before Mauritius-based SBM Africa Holdings Limited acquired it on 10 May 2017, forming SBM Bank Kenya as it is known today. In 2018, SBM Bank Kenya acquired Chase Bank, which had been placed under receivership, a move that significantly expanded its branch network and elevated it to Tier 2 bank status in the Kenyan banking sector. SBM Bank Kenya is a subsidiary of the wider SBM Group, one of the largest financial institutions in Mauritius, with a growing presence across East Africa.
SBM Bank Kenya’s head office is at Riverside Mews, at the junction of Ring Road, Riverside, and Riverside Westlane along Riverside Drive, Nairobi. The bank offers a full suite of retail, SME, and corporate banking services, including deposits, loans, trade finance, treasury, and international banking and advisory services. Following its expansion through the Chase Bank acquisition, SBM Bank Kenya now operates 39 branches across the country, serving over 100,000 clients through a combination of in-person branch banking and digital platforms, including the SBM mobile app.
