📋 About KenGen
Kenya Electricity Generating Company PLC (KenGen) is East Africa’s leading electricity generating company. It develops, manages and operates power plants across Kenya and supplies a large share of the country’s electricity — officially described as about 60% or more of national generation.
KenGen was incorporated in 1954 as Kenya Power Company (KPC). It was later rebranded and, in 2006, listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange under the ticker KEGN. Its generation mix is dominated by renewable sources: hydro and geothermal form the bulk of capacity, with smaller wind and thermal contributions.
KenGen is not the company that sells power bills to households. Generation is KenGen’s role; transmission is handled by KETRACO and distribution/retail by Kenya Power (KPLC). For power cuts, tokens and retail billing, contact Kenya Power not KenGen head office.
