Kilimall was started in 2014 by Chinese entrepreneur Yang Tao. After working in Kenya with Huawei on mobile payment systems, he noticed how expensive and limited shopping options were for everyday people. He decided to build a platform that would bring affordable products (especially electronics and home goods) from China and local sellers straight to Kenyan customers.
Today Kilimall is one of the biggest online shopping apps in East Africa. You can find phones, TVs, kitchen appliances, fashion, beauty products and more at competitive prices. They have their own logistics network (KiliExpress), many pick-up stations, and Service Hubs where you can walk in for help. The company also operates in Uganda and Nigeria, but Kenya remains the main market.
Yang Tao is still the founder and CEO. The platform focuses heavily on mobile shopping and has built a strong following among budget-conscious shoppers who want good value.
