📋 About USIU-Africa
United States International University – Africa (USIU-Africa) was founded in 1969 as the Africa campus of the San Diego-based United States International University. The university was first accredited in 1981 through the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) as part of USIU-San Diego, before Kenya’s Universities Act of 1985 required it to pursue independent local chartering. In 1999, USIU-Africa was awarded its own charter as an independent institution by Kenya’s Commission for Higher Education, formally separating from its San Diego parent, which went on to merge with the California School of Professional Psychology to form Alliant International University in 2001.
USIU-Africa is located in Kasarani, off Thika Road at Exit 7, and is led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mwenda Ntarangwi. The university is dually accredited by Kenya’s Commission for University Education (CUE) and the WASC Senior College and University Commission in the United States, giving its degrees strong international recognition. USIU-Africa serves over 6,500 students representing more than 55 nationalities, taught across 38 undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs offered through its several schools, including the well-known Chandaria School of Business. The university has produced more than 25,000 alumni and, alongside its main Nairobi campus, offers flexible online degree programs including online MBAs and master’s degrees for students balancing work and study.

⭐ Reviews & Ratings
USIU-Africa is consistently ranked among Kenya’s top private universities, valued for its international accreditation, diverse student body, modern facilities, and the global recognition its dual Kenyan and US accreditation provides graduates.
“Studying at Chandaria has given me exposure to case studies and international faculty perspectives I don’t think I’d get at most local universities. The diversity of my classmates from across Africa and beyond genuinely broadens how you think about business.”
“Chose USIU specifically because of the WASC accreditation — knowing my degree would be recognised internationally mattered a lot to my family back home. Settling in as an international student was made easier by the strong community here representing so many different countries.”
“Doing my MBA online while working full-time has genuinely fit my schedule well, and the instructor engagement has been better than I expected for a distance format. It does take real self-discipline to keep up given the flexibility, but that’s true of any online program.”
“Graduated a few years back and joining the 25,000+ alumni network has actually paid off professionally — several opportunities have come directly from USIU connections. The debate society and community service projects I did as a student also shaped how I approach leadership today.”
